This morning, my pastor gave a sermon inspired by the hymn, How Great Thou Art, which gave me much to ponder about God. Are you familiar with the hymn? Take a look at the lyrics:
How Great Thou Art
Verse 1:
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Verse 2:
When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.
Chorus
Verse 3:
And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.
Chorus
Verse 4:
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then shall I bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim, “My God, how great Thou art!”
Chorus
This hymn has to be one of my top 10 favorite hymns! It gives glory to God, who is worthy of our praise.
But do you really think about how great God is?
God is the Creator. He created time, space, and matter. He existed before time. Let that sink in. He. Existed. Before. Time. Wow! Does that blow your mind?
God is all powerful. His power knows no limits. He is mighty! He is our strong tower that we can run to and be safe. We don’t need to fear!
God loves us. ❤ He is the definition of perfect love. He loves us in spite of our shortcomings. His love is greater and more powerful than we could probably imagine.
God loves us this much: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:31-32 NKJV)
He is so powerful that no one can separate us from His love: “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 8:37-39 NKJV)
Trust in God and do not be afraid!
Love, Lisa
